SERVICES:
LAND DEVELOPMENT
  • Reviews Plats, Construction Plans, Site Plans, Access Permits. Administers Subdivision Regulations, and Flood Plain Regulations- Inspects all phases of subdivision construction.
FEDERAL AID & INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT
  • Manages Federal Aid design and construction road projects
  • Manages Unimproved Road Program design & construction
  • Review and approve utility permits
  • Manages annual paving and resurfacing program
DESIGN
  • Design and construction management of federal aid and county constructed bridge projects
  • Manages design and construction of county funded projects which are not federal aid projects
  • Manages FHWA & State Bridge Inspection Program
  • Manages Highway Department's GIS program
  • Maintains database of county maintained paved roads, dirt roads, subdivision roads, NBIS bridges, LT 20 bridges
  • Manages signalized intersections and intersection geometry improvement projects
MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION:
  • Maintain pavement, signs, striping, shoulders
  • Mow roadsides, clean drainage ditches, apply herbicides
  • Maintain, repair, and install drainage culverts
  • Maintain guardrail, curb & gutter, storm drain inlets
  • Maintain dirt roads
  • Construct special road projects
  • Construct shoulders and widen existing roads
  • Grading of dirt roads, install drainage and base material as a part of unimproved road projects
  • Install/replace drainage culverts on county road
  • Construct bridges
COUNTY SHOP:
  • Maintain all Highway Department vehicles and construction equipment
  • Maintain vehicles for Sheriff’s Department, Building Inspections, Planning Department, County Manager’s Office, and all other County Commission funded agencies
OTHERS
  • Provide engineering consulting services/construction services for other county departments
  • Engineering/maintenance/construction assistance for cities and Shelby County Board of Education
